What to sell the CD of images for? - 05-19-2009, 12:55 PM

I have a friend who is in a band. I decided to shoot their concert the other night and wound up taking pictures for their publicist. My friend called me and was wanting a lot of the images and has decided he would just assume have the CD of images. He wants them for his website and his publicist is going to want them for advertising. I did not charge him a fee for the shoot as I was doing this as a friend and for my own skill development. Now I am wondering what an appropriate price for a CD of about 68 images would be.

The pricing models I have seen appear to be charging about $2 an image.

P.s. I would like to gain more business in this market and don't want to charge to much.

Suggestions greatly appreciated.
Thanks

If they s*ck, not much.... if they're awesome and there is great demand for them, a bunch. or....$2.67 an image.... or.... or....

Not trying to be a smart *ss, but welcome to the business world. So many variables here. Friends, no prior arrangement, quality of images, post processing, usage rights, etc.

Give them away. Graciously accept, but don't expect a donation or gift for them. Then do some research. Visit other sites etc., so you can go into your next gig with more knowledge and professionalism. Then, after many more mistakes and tweaks you'll be on your way. If you're really good, you should be successful. Good luck Greg! Would love to see some of your images too.

how much time and effort did you put into processing the images? What is their budget? how much will you be satisfied with? Additionally, you don't want to be known as the cheap guy even if you gain more business.

Either way, I'd edit your images down to a more manageable number of the best ones (a dozen or so, this is just my opinion), as then you'd at least have more control over which images they use. Without a prior agreement, my suggestion is just to provide them at no charge. You could ask for a small photo credit (maybe even your Web address) when your images are used; that isn't much but would give you a byline for published work to build your portfolio.
