what is a 1-time usage of one of my pictures worth?
a gentleman wants to use a picture ive taken of some lynx in a book he is publishing,

Most of the images I have sold for books only brought $25.00-$40.00. Unless it is a huge press run $50.00 is probably tops.

That depends on the book, placement, size, and the print run. I sell through a stock agency to the textbook market and the average sale looks to be around $200. It also depends on how unique the shot is. For many small publishers or self publishers I do not doubt Don's experience of $25-$40.
