paper of a different business kind... - 06-01-2009, 05:47 PM

So I am ready to finally pay the piper for a logo...and have been putting LOTS of thought into this. I'm trying to decide if it is possible to put fun and classy together? I'm thinking it has to be one or the other, but I'm looking for thoughts. I also am thinking of getting a metallic look. Metallic paper, envelopes, logo, etc. some and/or to go with the 6 carr thing...

For those of you with advertising/business/marketing....suggestions??? Ideas?

Renae,

Just curious how you came up with 6carr? What does it mean? I am asking this so I can Help you with your LOGO. I think if you are going to do metallic. Foil stamping is the way to go. The initial cost up front is more because a special dye has to be made. But once it's made you can use it on all your stuff. But first thing first LOGO..... A friend of mine owns a printing company and I have a sign busniess so logo's design is common practice for me. Happy to help feel free to PM me with you ideas......

Because my last name is carr and there are 6 in the family...real creative huh??? (NOT!!) but I couldn't use my name, so that's the best I could come up with. I"ve really wanted to incorporate a car, or a bumper somehow...I found these really cool bags that have 6 cars on them. I have located the "owner" they are no longer making them. I like the idea of them, but of course how big can the logo be??? It's going on the bottom little bit of a photo??? here's a sample of the bag...

Just an idea.. even though your main focus isnt about car racing... you can make your design to like like it.. design something with a number plate add the six in there and add maybe some stripes in the bg... then just simply add the carrphotography..

I know this doesnt explain well but if youd like i can whip it up....

Find a designer whose work you like and has the style you want. A good designer will try to understand you and your business as best as possible and develop something that should suit all of your needs. Look at portfolios and get recommendations. It's hard to give proper advice without truly knowing what you need.

For best results:
Step 1 - determine needs, research, contact professional, look, question, evaluate.
Step 2 - explain, listen, discuss, listen, look, sleep, look again, question, listen, trust.

Therein lies part of the problem...do I want classy or do I want fun? Well I want both? can you do both??? Is it possible?? that's why I'm kind of questioning before I go to the designer...

maybe it's not something I can get from you guys...maybe I have to go to them...
I take it these are questions I need to go to them about??? Now the tough part...picking someone??? UGH!!

A good graphic designer, just like a good interior designer, composer, or photographer, should be able to pull off different styles to suit the need of the client.

Something to think about!!! If you put cars in your logo. The public will will think that's what you photograph.(Just Cars) When designing your logo keep that in mind.

I have a great graphics designer right now, and he actually turned me away from a logo. His reasoning was that for photography it isn't really necessary and if you have a really solid typography, your photography will stand out on its own and the logo will be unnecessary.

I've gone round and round on creating a brand name - hey my name is boring and common - creating a logo, all kinds of stuff.

But settling on real names and great typography rather than getting all fancy with a logo and everything else. My photography can stand on its own, and that is what I want my customer's focus to be. Not on a cutesie graphic or name.

Renae,

I think the basics of your logo is great.

I have always liked the papyrus font.

Attached is my view for an updated logo. Keep the 6 CARR theme
as it will always make the curious ask what it means.

The only thing I would do is make "photography" a different font so it doesn't detract from the actual logo and it also makes it easier to read from a distance.

In embroidery, if you can't read a logo from 15', you've missed your mark.

The attached design is actually digitized and ready to sew.

I say... don't over-think the design.

John

I really liked it, but it is becoming WAY overdone now. I see it on all kinds of stuff, especially with Photographers. (I even used it on my first site.) It has become like Comic Sans for me.

I would move away from papyrus.
