Personal Thank Yous - 06-04-2009, 05:50 PM

So I'm trying to keep up with these thank you's...I've decided my handwriting has gone to hell over the years...but I'm afraid if I go to typewritten, it will take away from it...would you rather have a not so pretty handwritten note or a computer note????

What a dilemma! You always seem to come up with good questions that boggle the mind.

Handwritten=more personal, but takes more of your time. I guess if you defined "legible" in your case I could make a more informed decision. Is your handwriting just doctorish or does it look like Chinese symbols?

Typewritten=less personal, but faster and you can more easily keep a database of what you wrote, to whom and save a copy of the actual letter for future reference. Will this be on nice paper/stationary/card stock with your full color logo? Definitely hand-sign it.

There's also the argument that it's what you say rather than how it's transcribed that makes a note more personal. If you are genuine and include personal details specific to the client, being friendly and human and genuine, that would tip the scale for typewritten in my opinion.

I cheat - ;-)

Seriously.

Download the peas fonts - there's like 40 'hand written' fonts that are super awesome. I did this one just to show you how it works. ;-)

Cajungaltx added 1 Minutes and 25 Seconds later...Double Post Merged Below

oh - I write it, and then tilt the text box to make it not look 'perfectly straight'.... it works for me.. ;-)

And yes, it's okay if my brilliance annoys the hell out of you... *grin*

I don't remember who but someone out there in the WWW can take your hand writing and make it a font. You then do a sample using good handwriting submit it to them and then presto they mail it to you. I did this for a former boss. The clients couldn't tell. After all it was his handwriting.

Handwritten. It's more personal than something typewritten.

I have the worse handwriting in the world.
What I do is have my wife hand write it for me and I sign it.
But, yes, handwritten is more personal.

At a minimum, you need to hand sign the note but I'm old fashioned enough to vote for handwritten (and my writing is as bad as anyones). On the other hand, I'm progressive enough to like the "personal" font idea if your writing is either unreadable or it takes you so long to make it readable it's not pratical.

Well I think that's were this all started...I really like the idea of handwritten notes. It's shows some old fashioned "I appreciate you as a customer" kind of stuff. The problem is, I think I still have the old fashioned idea that women have nice hand writing too!! And my is legible, but not so pretty!!! And if you make a mistake, you have to start all over again...so I was just curious to see what others thought...

Handwritten note is more personal for sure.
If you don't have so many to write that you can't write them all out by hand, then use a freehand style font.

You can type and retype and edit until you have want you want to say. Then use that text to hand write on the acutal note that will be sent.
