Angry Stock House Rejections - 06-11-2009, 10:44 PM

*house name removed*

I decided to go ahead and submit to *name removed* again.. and was rejected again.. but this time, I think I know enough to say they are so far off the mark, I have no real idea what they are thinking... some of the images rejected and their reasons..

Poor Lighting--Poor or uneven lighting, or shadows. White balance may be incorrect.

Umm.. uneven lighting and shadows are the POINT of this image.

Noise--Noise, film grain, over-sharpening, or artifacts at full size.

Noise and artifacts were kinda the point again.. to give it a grunge feel. Art?

Focus--Your image is not in focus or focus is not located where we feel it works best.

WTF? Here's a 100% crop..

These are just the three that have left me scratching my head.. and wonder why I bother with this kind of stock house. Technical reasons, I can understand, but one would think they would want to let their buyers decide about artistic choices...

Whatever... I think I'll stick with the stock houses that allow the buyers to decide.

Yup, not much you can really do but resubmit and see if the next reviewer passes it.
It can be frustrating. It's the creative and artsy shots that have the highest chance of being rejected. Shoot a straight forward shot of an apple and if it's technically good, you're golden.

The thing is... they stock houses are getting ALOT more submissions, every day. They're being more selective about what they accept. They have that option. They have a pretty good idea what sells. They're in it to make THEMSELVES money, not you. So if they don't think your pic is worth their bandwidth and server space, they're going to reject it. A lot of them are getting bought up by Getty, too. Not sure if that is also a cause for them being more selective, but Getty is THE place to go to for a designer when looking for quality images.

btw, i really like that last one.

Ya.. I'm sure that's the case. I am already with a couple other places.. just thought I'd try this one again. Oh well, their loss. These images have been rated fairly high other places.

They are cool images ("cool" being a technical term). I've always been a fan of train-car graffiti.

Find a different stock house. Those are good. They're on crack....

I feel like I'm starring in one of those "Rejected by eHarmony" ads. LOL

Ya.. I think the bottom line is that I just must not fit with their style.. which is fine with me.. but if that's really the reason, they should have said that instead of coming up with bogus excuses for rejection. Out of focus my ass.

They can't even claim it was because of resize softening because they made me upload full-res versions of everything.

I thought about it once, but decided it was too much work. LOL
