PPA data recovery - 06-28-2009, 05:49 PM

Anyone had to use this?? I thought I just lost some personal photos and wasn't too worried, however I just noticed I lost some very important photos...yes I am doing some serious cussing...I will have a migraine before the night is over...It is on a 250 gig portable drive---if that matters.

I just read the info on their website...the drive itself isn't bad...I just deleted it, because I thought I had the same backup information on another drive...(thought both drives had the exact same info on them....(*&((*&) they didn't...

Call and talk to them. I remember they had excellent communication and they were quick with answers. I probably emailed mostly. They told me if the drive wasnt physically damaged, the odds of recovery were VERY high. Send it off. Dont freak out until they tell you to.

Dos Undelete - 06-28-2009, 08:07 PM

If you dont write anything to the drive it is fairly easy to recover them yourself. I have used this utility before with great success at work.

There is a Dos command "Undelete" that should still work. Sometimes you have to undelete the folders first. It has been a long time since I used it but if I recall correctly you have to give the file its first character back. You dont have to have the correct one just any character will work.

You might also check your deleted bin if you havent already.

Glen

Try r-studio. My husband was trying to do something with virtual drives and formatted my drive with all our personal images. We were able to pull everything off of it for the $49 software fee.

There are actually several options before you send it to a data recovery place...

try recova - restore my photos... there are several that will let you run their program, and buy it if they recover the photos - so basically, if they can't recover the photos, it doesn't cost you.

I used restore my photos with awesome luck on an SD drive that my daughter grabbed off my desk to put into her P&S camera on a trip to the zoo....

OOPSIES!

If your hard drive is/was fragmented, chances are the file bytes are scattered around the various disk sectors, which means in english even if you use your hard disk N times there is still that possibility that some files are recoverable because they were not written in a contiguous block.

I went thru that link from Glen and I no longer could find the Undelete program but do try this one

http://www3.telus.net/mikebike/RESTORATION.html

It's also free and I used this one to recover images from a CF card that I accidentally formatted.

Hope this helps.

Well I still have a migraine, but I'm happy as a pig in mud!!! http://www.data-recovery-software.net/ has recovered the baptism photos, and I'm currently recovering others. As as some of you know, I technically challenged so the fact that I could pull this off means that 99% of the people can do it!! The other thing that was really good news, was that I have been using this drive for probably a month...haven't reformatted it or anything, but still..appears most everything will be saved. for $50.00...yeah!!!
