Ok...so I am clueless and need some help. I have to do a family shoot this weekend. Family coming in from different states and no way to re-do the shoot. The lense that was broke is my 24-70 2.8 and I feel it is the necessary lense to shoot the family photos. My other choices are 85 prime, 50 prime, or 70-200. on a 5D. I don't feel comfortable with any of those lenses.

So I contacted York and they said there is no coverage provided to rent a lense.

Here is what my policy says" If "you" rent or borrow equipment of the same type to replace Covered Property while that Covered Property is being repaired as a result of a Covered Cause of Loss, "we" will pay the owner for "loss" by Covered Causes of Loss to that replacement equipment while it is in "your" care, custody, or control. The most "we" will pay the owner for "los" to the replacement equipment is the Limit of Insurance for the equipment being repaired."

English anyone??? doesn't this mean they will pay for a rental as long as it doesn't cost too much???

Renee it sounds like to me that if you rent a lens and your coverage is for 650 on that particular lens and the rental is 450 they would cover the 450. But if your coverage is for 450 and it costs you 650 they would still only pay the 450.

BTW I have yet to get an email nor my check. Good luck. Think I may need to read my policy a little closer.

No - that's not what it means.

It means that if you rent or borrow a lens while YOUR lens is being repaired, and something happens to THAT lens, they will pay the owner of the rented/borrowed lens up to the amount of the value of YOUR lens that is being repaired.

It's not rental insurance - i.e. pays for your rental. It's rental insurance, i.e. if something breaks while your renting it.

Update on my issue, the check was cut on 6/30 and mailed out on 7/1. Yet to receive it though. I called Marsh and they got in touch with my guy at york. He called this morning to let me know that they mailed it to the wrong address. Not sure how that is possible, I guess someone could possibly miss up Nashville with National?!? lol
But they stopped payment on the original and cutting me another by the end of the week. So other than the wrong addy and very little contact he did his job. Hopefully I get the check before we leave for Hawaii.
Good luck Renae

Well after all the lack of communication at the end, I was pleased with the end result. It does appear however it may be by chance. The first few people I spoke with, were clueless and not helpful. The person directly responsible for my claim was helpful and one time I complained about this taking so long and I didn't know if I would continue my service through them because of the time issue...he said as soon as I would send in the repair estimate he would get me a check. He was true to his word. He was very quick to get the check cut and get it to me in the mail.

I still have issues with no one knowing what to do with the initial call and the policy not doing anything to help out while your equipment is being fixed. But at least I know next time, to immediately send it in to get a quote. It appears it is a toss up as how they figure where the cut off is on the dollar amount for repair vs replace cost.

Hope this helps those of you with PPA insurance or considering it...any more questions, pm me and I'll do my best to answer them.
