What would you have done to her when you were growing up?
OK, maybe hitting her or tattling to Mom wouldn't be appropriate...

Seriously, I'd ask her to take them down with the explanation that you still own the copyright and that you're afraid that someone on Facebook will take them and use them without permission. Then there's the fact that Facebook has tried in the past to update their terms of use agreement to include language that gives them rights to all photographs uploaded on their site. I think they backed off on that but I wouldn't be surprised to see them slip that in again.

If you're not comfortable doing that, perhaps sending her some low resolution copies with a watermark so they can't be picked up off of Facebook and used elswhere would be an option.

I also wouldn't do any more business with her or give her or her husband any pictures besides family snapshots unless they're watermarked.

This is what I was thinking. Relatives or other clients are extremely likely to put pro photos on their sites. Might as well make them work for you! Especially if you watermark them with your Web site address.

Let her put them up but make sure she uses ones with your info on them.

Am I within my rights to demand this?
Yes.
Should you? That's a different question. I would not demand. I would politely try to educate her on how the business works. Why you feel the way you do. If she understands she'll accommodate you. If she doesn't understand It's pretty much a hopeless situation. If you push, she'll get all huffy and think you're being stupid. In which case you may try the suggestion above. Take the high road and charge it up to experience. It sucks that people don't realize these things.

Of course, if she's fully aware of what's she's doing and just doesn't give a you know what, then that really sucks, but I'd still take the high road.

Thanks for the advice, everyone. This is a very touchy situation, so I think I'm going to leave it alone. I've learned an important lesson, though.
