So, as i lay here with two bags of ice on my badly sprained ankle, i've decided to pose this question to you all. (Sorry if it's been covered before).

how do you balance your life and doing the things you want to do with the risks of getting hurt while owning your own business?

luckily for me, i don't have a wedding this weekend or else i might be in trouble. I'm in a summer league for ultimate frisbee and it was an accident that i landed wrong, but still.

Does anyone else run into the problem of having to give up activities you love because of the possibility of getting hurt and it impacting your work?

I really enjoy bicycling and kayaking, and besides it being freakin' hot this summer I haven't slowed down any. My take is that it's extremely important to have passions and interests outside of photography or you could burn out quickly.

As "insurance," if you have a second shooter you work with regularly, help that person develop to the point where they can cover for you if you're incapacitated. Or just be more careful out on the field, but don't stop chasing other pursuits!

Keeping a balance between work and personal lives can be challenging. I've tended to give priority to work in many situations.

In retrospect, I'd say I should have worried more about having fun. Sometimes things seem so important (shooting that wedding, finishing that project, etc.). But in the grand scheme of things, are they really that important?

Go for it while you can, you never know what the future holds.
