Heard of these guys? - 07-16-2009, 08:16 PM

Hey,
I was just contacted by an art exchange group called
www.art-exchange.com
Anyone heard of them? They say they are interested in representing me to corporate buyers of artwork like hotel chains, cruise lines, and furniture companies.
Their sales pitch sounds credible and their "fee" is reasonable to start with, but not sure about them. There is a one time lifetime fee to start and they get 10% of sales from their site.
They claim 150,000 hits/month on their site, but I need to know more about them.
If you haven't heard of them, can you recommend questions to ask to nail down their system.
Thanks,
Randy

I haven't heard of this group, but I'm familiar with the business model. It's a lead generation scheme and your benefit is only as solid as the leads. When you're looking at their fee, make sure you are measuring the opportunity cost of using the funds for another marketing avenue. I'm skeptical of groups like this (albeit some are beneficial). I hope you can get someone who has dealt with them because their experience is probably valid.

Back to the opportunity cost, if you can take the same funds and put it to a more lucrative marketing effort, you ought to do that. With the scarcity of funds right now, make sure you are fully vetting your options: this one may generate a few solid leads that are profitable; however, if there is another avenue to generate one incremental lead over this one, you should take it.

Thanks Tyler,
I have emailed two shooters I found on their site and am waiting for a response.
I really haven't tried very hard lately to market and the initial fee isn't much, so I may try it. I could spend as much or more doing mass contacting what with postage, cards, portfolios and such.
I will let you know how it works out.
Randy

Randy:

I look forward to hearing the results. I'm not big on mass marketing campaigns either. The .05-.01 returns just don't get me sold on the method. If you ever want any ideas from a business guy, feel free to PM me to discuss. I'm always eager to banter.

Hope you hear from the other shooters soon.

As a random pick, I did a google on Carol Wilder. The Art-exchange that you mentioned is selling one of her art pieces. The question is who is receiving the proceeds since she died in an auto accident in 2004. Couple of web sites to look at: http://www.dallasartsrevue.com/membe...r_memory.shtml

This one has picture of the art work the Art-exchange is selling, http://www.wilderenge.com/collaborative.htm then click on the left "works by Carol Wilder" and then scroll down in the collection dated "Works of late 1980's and early 1990's" and then the small picture second from the right. Is the Art-exchnage really lagit?
