What a good resource for magazines that buy photos?? - 07-21-2009, 12:08 PM

I've been getting a lot of compliments on my photos lately and I'm getting closer to wanting to take the next big step. I enjoy shooting wildlife and outdoor subjects. I'm not much of a portrait guy, yet. But I have a friend whose going to help me take those skills to the next level. What is the best was to get my images noticed by publications? Any an all information that you all can provide would be great! Thanks

FYI, your local Half Price Books will usually have one or two older editions on sale for cheap.

OK, I learned something today. Time for me to sign off. I had no idea such a book existed. Don't forget to tip your waitresses. :)

The Half-Price books here in arlington actually had TWO of the current 2009 versions when i was in there a week or so back. I picked up my copy new at B&N very early this year, maybe the first print of that edition. Definitley pick up a copy if you get a chance to.

The top mags have staffers or only use "known" freelancers. Lesser mags either use lots of stock images or will gladly accept images for free (this won't help your career much). If you're interested in event or editorial-type work, you might approach a local newspaper or publication to get your foot in the door.

I checked out the 2009 Photographers Market from my small city library. It will help tell you what's out there and the process for submitting work to a variety of publications.

Actually, your friend could've helped you realize your option was not the best and that $14 probably would have ended being more. Linky

Well eventually I'd love to be a staffer or a known freelancer. But I know you have to start somewhere. I'll be checking out the book mentioned. I've been using Google a bunch, but it's actually not hitting on the info I'm lookin for.
