Moving to Maryland, a business question.... - 08-21-2009, 09:32 AM

My husband is being transferred to Maryland, the kids and will be going wwith him, of course. I hope to continue my photography in Maryland.(I have been looking into what I need to do to get going legally there.) My question is, if I want to keep my business name and EIN number, do I just fill out the forms here in Texas like I am closing my business? Or, is there a way to do it for transferring elsewhere?

Thanks,

Barb

It looks like 31 people so far have looked at your question and none have an answer. I really don't know either. Are you set up as a sole proprietor, Sub S corp., LLC, LPC?

Hi Don, I am set up as sole proprietor. If worse comes to worse I would rather be safe then sorry and just close things down, and hope that will not be a problem setting up shop in MD.

What part of Maryland? My dad grew up in Deerpark and is up there now for his 50th high school reunion. Beautiful area... :)

Go here to start a business in Maryland:

When I closed my auto repair business as a sole proprietor, I just made sure the vendors were paid, made a final sales tax payment, turned in the sales tax permit and moved on...If your EIN is listed in your name, it should carry over to Maryland if you reopen with the same name...Only the address will change...Ben

Thanks Ben, that makes sense! Allen, thanks for the link, I have bookmarked it. I will be moving to southern Maryland, Leanordtown or Mechanicsville probably(We are still researching schools for the kids).

If it's like Texas you need to register your business name with the county, get your sales tax set up with the state and your federal EIN will only need a change of address. Good luck on your move. I hope your business does well there.
