yes they are still my images - 09-03-2009, 07:04 PM

So I did a photoshoot about 3 years ago (maybe 4) for a very lovely young lady as part of a magazine issue. Got the model release signed and she loved the pics. 6 months after the shoot, she emails me wanting me to remove the images from my site
I complied and never gave it another thought but about 3 months ago, I had a problem with my site and had to restore it from a backup which included some of her images. I get an email today from her TELLING me to remove the pics (I didn't even know they were there). I tried to explain to her what happened, but she was too busy telling me the images belonged to her...yada, yada, yada
I removed them again, but I guess what bugs me is
1. her misconception of copyright and her demands
2. the images were used in a national publication, yet you have a problem with them being on my site

Am I missing something here???

Wow, that's out of line. I would have put them back up after she was so crazy about it. Maybe she has a stalker or something and that's why she wants them down?

Depends on what was written on the model release, such as "photographer retains the right to display images without consent from the model" etc.

It's nice that you are so compliant with her demands.
You probably don't HAVE to comply since you have the appropriate releases, but unless you want to make a point it's probably better to remove them. You could explain to her that you are VOLUNTARILY removing them because you are a nice guy, but that when she signed the release she signed away her option to tell you what to do. (like she ever had an option anyway)...

thanks guys,
the release allowed me to display/use them in print and/or on my web site and the only place I showed them was my web site. the first time she found them, someone googled her name and told her and she wanted them gone, I guess she googled her name again...

Seems to be going around.. I've had a model recently ask to have images removed.. I will probably comply, but I won't be using her ever again.

The only way they'll get the message is if you explain the way it works, and keep the images up on the site, at least for a while.

our model release also states that we can manipulate them anyway we want also. so, basically, they can't complain just because they don't like how they look in the picture. i forget the exact verbiage

I would emphasize Cap'n Tom's comments, that you let her know that because of the release you do have the right to do this, but out of professional courtesy you'll pull them. I believe the model needs to understand ownership and use rights to avoid further complications.

I had this issue - parents wanted photos of their daughter taken down - I asked - and while I could leave them up - it wasn't worth the issues it would cause - so I pulled them down.

Agreed with opinions above. I would probably get on the phone to discuss the matter with her, understand where she's coming from, and explain nicely copyright law and my rights as per the release. There is no benefit to me in being hard on people I did business with unless it's absolutely necessary.

There's a big difference between a paid session and a TFP here, though, IMHO... for a TFP, pulling down the photos mean that your time was nearly completely wasted... at least a paid session, you received compensation.
