printing on cd/dvd - 10-13-2009, 07:12 PM

Anyone know an affordable option to print onto the cd/dvd? I had a little printer that did this, but it is not worth replacing now that it has broken. Is there a place like Staples that will do a custom short run for this?

I print onto a sticky label from Staples or Office Depot.
Some don't like this, but it is definitely the easiest and cheapest.
You don't need a special printer and don't need to buy lazersribe DVD's (or whatever they are called ).

Just FYI: I have an HP D5460 that will print directly to a disc. It ran about $80 at Office Depot. Also a HP C5580 all in one that has a CD/DVD print tray. So if you're ever in the market for a small printer or all in one you may want to look at these.

I use the labels and they work pretty well, though it took a few tries to get everything lined up with the printer. Once you do just keep a template set up for when you need to make more labels.

i use lightscribe on the cd, and then make a cd cover for the case also. I like to see the clients go "that is so cool!"

+1 for the HP all in one. I use printable CDs and between the cost of the CD, the ink and the jewel case, my unit cost is about 60 cents.

My laptop has a Lightscribe burner built in. Bought a 3 pack of Lightscribe CDs. Lightscribe prduces no color in the image and the image fades VERY quickly. One Lightscribe CD I burned a little over a year ago is almost completely unreadable stored in a book on a bookshelf.

As a former multimedia operator, I've seen paper labels ruin a number of CD drives because of being improperly applied and all sorts of ridiculous... approach with caution and apply with extreme caution.

I'd prefer printable CD's or have them pre-printed (i.e. logo, and a space for the event name) - sharpie in whatever name.

epson printers do an excellent job. An Epson R200 should run you about 50 bucks

My R800 prints on CDs. I've done it once to try it.

My HP PC has Lightscribe. Never used it. Still have the demo CD that came with it to try it once, somewhere.
