So I have a knack for running into things that have the potential to cause me pain and or kill me. I am just a hobbyist now, but I have been trying to think of a niche that I would like to specialize in and this seems to be something that is not shot very often. Is there any money in shooting dangerous critters freelance (poisonous snakes, bugs, big cats etc. etc.) or am I doomed to find a company looking for these types and shoot under their name? I know its a weird question but I am very curious to here some responses from those of ya'll that do this for a living.

Generally, there isn't much money in taking pictures of the wife.

I've heard that ex-wives are more dangerous. Be careful out there!

Common dangerous critters have been photographed to pieces, I'm sure. A way to set yourself apart would to seek out rare or endangered critters in some far-flung place that haven't seen much exposure. Not something I'd recommend shooting on spec, but on assignment with an expense account is another story.

I've found they're most dangerous just before they become ex-wives......Ben

John,

In selling the images themselves, you might get some stock sales, maybe a few dollars from a local paper that may be interested in running the image. Maybe some sales to your local extension office or to wildlife mags, if they're really unique and amazing images.

What makes my mind click would be to video yourself interacting with the creatures and taking their photos and using the videos as viral marketing for whatever services you provide - portraiture, commercial, wildlife, whatever. Kind of like the "Will It Blend" videos, with a Survivorman flavor, and some Ice Society editing.

Now that I would love to see. Your potential clients may feel the same way.
