This is a discussion on General Liability Insurance within the Business Talk forums, part of the Business Discussion category; I'm interested in who's getting decent rates and with what company/agency. Thanks Steve...

"Decent insurance rates" is an oxymoron. I'm shopping for a new company. I will let you know what I find.

I recently purchased mine through USAA. They dont offer the insurance themselves but go through one of three companies. If you are a USAA member you can get this insurance without the extra charges like broker fees and such.

The bottom line is up to 1 million occurrence, with 2 million being the aggregate (the most they will pay out in a calendar year...depending on when you start your policy).

The Premium depends on how much equipment you are insuring (yes I got my equipment covered under the same policy...includes laptop, portable studio, camera and all other gear that I take to locations.) My Premium is $500 a year with a $500 deductible. For each installment they charge an extra 6 dollars and they offer 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, or 10 installments.

The companies they use are Travelers, The Hartford and the last one I cannot recall.

Hope this helps...someone.

Daniel, I'm also shopping for equipment coverage.
I pay around 800.00 for full coverage (no deductible)
for around 14,000.00 coverage.
I'm using All State who I use for home and auto insurance.

Hey Angelo. My policy covers my equipment and General Liability.
To me $800 would be out of the question, I know that you said that you have no deductible but I guess I am taking a two hundred dollar risk over what you are paying.
I guess there is a give and take.

I have used USAA for a while on my Auto and home so I know that they have the cheapest rates that I have come across.

Just last week they opened up there memberships to include anyone who has ever honorably served. They also allow offspring of members to join as well.

PS They also offer negotiators for home and auto purchases, free.

The best thing to do is shop around, get several quotes, USAA and Allstate would be good suggestions. I worked for Allstate and I know we had fairly good General Lines Ins. and if you can get USAA (being military or family of) they are good at taking Very good care of there customers.

I'm in South American right now, but will call them when I get back.
Give me an idea what you pay for liability and equipment coverage.
I do have an honorable discharge from the Army - served during the
Civil War :grin
A 200 deductible is nothing if I can save that in premium payments.
So far I've never had a claim.

I am also looking around. Nationwide gave me a quote, and I am currently also looking into www.packagechoice.com (Hill and Usher). I got a marketing piece from them. It says on their card NAPP, and Editorial Photoraphers recommend them. Anyone have any experience with them?

Really cause The Hartford is one of the third party agencies that USAA goes through. Would you be willing to give his info to me so that I can call USAA and chop some heads off...PM me if you like.

Was that covering your equipment as well?

Has anyone gotten a quote through the new WPPI vendor (Wells Fargo)? We have The Hartford now, and pay $725.00 a year which covers equipment as well as liability.

I know it is so variable based on the equipment you list, but I am wondering if anybody switched and got a better rate.

I just got some new info from USAA after inquiring about my rates. My premium which is 500 annual covers both liability and equipment ($4000 for my studio and camera gear).

I was told that if I did not want the coverage for my gear then my premium would be 350 annual. I ended up changing over to the Hartford (through USAA) because they will provide free of charge a certificate with the companies name and my name for each event. Farmers charged for this service for each event.

Even if you are not current or ex military you may be able to get into USAA from relatives that were. Do some investigating and save some money...

Again this is general biz liability with property coverage with $500 deductible.

Hope this helps someone.
