Camera room size - 11-20-2009, 05:39 PM

I'm in the middle of designing my new studio. I know the bigger the better but I must stay within budget. So my question is what size would a camera room (shooting area) should be. I have allowed for an area of 18 feet wide by 25 feet long. Thanks In Advance.

18 x 25 should be good for most things short of cars and other large subjects.
But dont forget how high - 24 ft is ours in Italy studio and we shoot cars.
Fancy European cars in particular,
24 x 48 x 24 to be exact with front and rear projection.

I have had a camera room 29x36 and it was wonderful, but we moved to a better location and had to work in a 12x24 room, our studio now has a 18x30 camera room and I would not want to go back to a room any less. With 30 feet we can shoot full two people full length useing the 70-200 on both the full frame FX and the smaller 1.5 DX bodies. At 24 ft we could only shoot people under 5' 4" with that lens.

Thanks for your responses "El" and Wayne, by moving some items around I have allowed for an area of 18x30. This makes me feel allot better for the allocated area.

We have a very small studio with an 18 x 25 camera room. It is adequate and I have found with a little ingenuity you can do alot with a little, but at the end of the day I wish I had more space.

Some day...

Thanks for response Warren. But I have another question for you. Are you needing more camera room space or studio space.

Well, both really. We have the option to expand into another suite because the business that was there bailed out, but my business revenue still won't allow for the expansion yet (commercial properties are still quite high on lease rates). I would like to have dedicated space for a framing room, and seperate dedicated space for a sales / viewing room, but for now the frames are displayed in the sales room. As far as the camera room, I would really like more space all around, but to me it made more sense to stick to the plan despite my desire to "grow".
