What would you do? - 11-22-2009, 09:43 PM

I just got back from a big boudoir shoot and it was a blast. The problem, one of the girls started off drinking and by the time her 2nd round of 3 outfit changes began, she was LIT. I got what I could but I know they are going to be pretty bad because she was unstable and you could tell she was drunk. How would you handle it?

I'd tell her how beautiful she is and ask if she wanted to come over to my house to look at my etchings .... but that's just me.

Assuming this was a paid professional shoot, it is up to the photographer to make sure the client looks their best, or not do the shoot.
A word to her earlier would help to decrease the flap when you told her later that you couldn't photograph her in her condition.

There were 4 girls and we were switching off and no one even told me she had been drinking (she was in the bathroom with her makeup artist friend and the other girls). They didnt tell me till RIGHT before I was ready for her. Had they filled me in or had I had time to check I DEFINITELY would have said something to her. She was perfectly fine for the 1st portion of the shoot so I know I got some great shots from that.

I am going to offer to do a reshoot free of charge. It was a mini session with 15 final images but I DEFINITELY will not give out final product with the images we got from outfits 2 & 3.

As a woman, I would be so ashamed and embarressed if a photographer told me that we were going to have to reshoot all because of my drunkeness. So, I'd definitely start by mentioning that the first set of shots were fantastic, the best out of all of the girls, maybe fluff the truth and sugar coat it to give her a little confidence boost before slamming it back to the truth by explaining that you would like to do another shoot for two reasons:
1) she was so photogenic and talented that you want more!!
2) it seems that the alchohol may have had too much of an affect on her expressions. Explain that you have had other models suffer the same problem- that alchohol affects everyone differently and for her it made her otherwise flawless face less expressive and her perfect body seem akward and unbalanced.

Dont mention that you know she was wasted, and monitor her better on your 2nd time around.

....just relating to the complicated female ego...

She did send me an email thanking me for my time and apologized for being tipsy. I started initial edits last night and I am REALLY hoping that I have enough from the 1st shoot to make up for the rest. But if not I will take it easy with how I word it FOR SURE. IF there is a 2nd time around, it will be a 1 on 1 so NO alcohol. I am tempted to add in a clause about drinking during a shoot to the contract.
