Finding property owners. - 01-14-2010, 01:38 PM

Ok, there's this absolutely beautiful property right by my new house and I'm dying to shoot there. It's abandoned for sure, old house and barn, but somewhat fresh tire tracks. I've heard the owners hog hunts out there. The problem is that I don't know who the owner is or how to find them.

Is this public information? Is there a way to find the owner of a property. I really really want to get ahold of this guy so I can ask permission to shoot out there. Even if he says no, at least I tried.

Any help?
Could I find something out through a County Appraisal District or something?

Most county courthouses have a tax assessment map that is public access, note the location via roads/map/gps coords, Mapsco and go to the county courthouse and find the plot, the owner's name should be listed there, though I'm not sure what other contact info (address maybe) would also be listed.

Look at the county appraisal district. They usually have maps and maybe you can find it that way. Go to the nearest house and ask if they know who the property owner is. If they can get you a name, that is a start. From there take the name and search the appraisal district records. I hope this helps.

who owns what is very much public information.

of course after I wrote this I went researching and have made great progress through the appraisal district, but no phone number. It's owned by a company that doesn't seem to exist in any searches. Now I'm going through the title agency or something. I'll keep yall in the loop.

Beautiful!

Got ahold of the guy, and he said it would be alright as long as I sent him some form holding him not responsible for anything.

Anyone have a template or a form like this?
