HS Athletic Poster Pricing - 01-20-2010, 01:05 PM

I'm about to do a HS soccer team poster which involves shooting about 72 students individually and then designing a 18x24 poster with sponsor logos for ads.

Anyone ever done one of these for a school, if so what would you charge for shooting 72 studens and designing the poster with pictures and ads?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I've done several. Generally I only shoot the kids who prepurchase packages. I give a handout to the coach ahead of time. We try to do these before the group shot but have done it afterwards. For the group shot and poster design for a high school, charge a flat fee plus your printing, shipping, tax, etc. Don't sell yourself short here. Unless they are willing to pay per student, add in the time it will take to line them up and do individuall headshots if they want those headshots included somewhere on the poster, otherwise there isn't a point in doing them.

We had Teri Quance come to the Dallas PPA meeting last night and she talked on this very subject. I believe she was charging $10 per child (in the photo) and each kiddo received one poster... of course I could be completely wrong.

In the context of what she was talking about the posters were a fund-raising product... and that charge was $250 and each kid received 10 posters to sell. The studio didn't make any money on it but the kids went out and sold the posters... to raise money for whatever group they were in... and the studio logo and information was on the poster. So, it was more for advertising than anything else.

AND... her average group size was between 10 and 20... not 75.

From my experience each team books their own photographer/poster designer who also usually handles all the printing details. Although we did shoot one where all we had to provide was the print ready jpeg of the team. It appears to be the coach's decision with occasional input by the booster club officers. Payment either comes through a PO with the athletic department (slow) or through the booster club (faster but less frequent). Other high school programs such as the show choir, cheerleaders and some clubs also often have posters.
