New logo feedback - 01-23-2010, 01:32 AM

Hey! I'm getting a new logo designed and would like a little feedback.

First off, where I'm coming from....I asked for a one color logo with a classic, timeless feel to it. Possibly a high end boutique look. I don't want something that is going to be trendy and out of style next month.

I'm jso. I'd like to do families and kids and eventually boudoir. :)

What do you think?

I really like the graphic but wondering what a different font might look like. The two seem very similar...just my thoughts! :-)

I like the design. similar to our new Texas Boudoir Portraits logo.

I would like to see it in business card size. My concern would be that the thin lines of the logo would disappear at small size. They could be enlarged ?

Thanks! Tom-I actually had the same concern so I asked for the lines to be enlarged a bit but wasn't happy with the outcome. I'm on a netbook so don't have any way to resize.

You could consider making the whole logo the size of the business card.
Tuck in your contact information in the spaces.
Put a representative photo on the back and start handing them out...

It's a frustrating part of business, and you'll likely change it later anyway.

Design 101... how will it produce as a lapel pin, as a billboard?

You should not have even had to ask. A good designer would have seen this problem. This design does satisfy some of your criteria and it's pretty, but technically it doesn't work and therefore this approach should have never been presented to you. I know I'm torching your designer, but a good designer is trained to solve problems not create them. If you paid good money for a top notch designer you should not have to walk them through a logo design. If you didn't (and perhaps this may be the case) then be prepared for a long process of you having to solve design and technical issues. Good luck.

Tom, I agree, dealing with inexperienced, poorly trained graphic designers can be very frustrating. About as frustrating as having to deal with inexperienced, poorly trained photographers we caution people about all the time.

Agreed.

I think the logo has the right feel that you're for and the typography choice, although a bit common, will actually give you the feel you're looking for.

However, the artsy swirls are not working for me at all.

I'd make the text the emphasis and either lose the swirls or make them much smaller, something like:

i like both your originally uploaded design as well as todd's here above me. All that actually matters is if you like it. It is your logo :)

I think you deserve a medal.....

You told me the same thing months ago, and I didn't listen. I'm now in the process of a new venture and we are hiring a pro this go round. Shouldda listened a long time ago.

I think the logo would be stronger with the characters solid, not open, and would lend it self well to color when solid. When you have a font made of lines it can close up or drop out when made very small. As a graphic designer for 30 years I have come to realize, it is subjective, and we all like different colors and looks, but generally speaking, you want your logo to be strong from a distance and still work when on a business card or photo. I like the curly lines but would remove the two vertical lines that box it in, but that's just me....see what I mean?

From a business standpoint, no. There is a reason companies spend thousand of dollars on customer focus groups. My wife, a restaurant designer, was told by a high level corporate shirt not to use a certain color because he didn't like it. She reminded him that the store was being designed not for him but for the customers and research showed the customers responded favorably to this color. A good designer designs not for themselves but for what fulfills the clients unique needs.

Thank you Chris. Being a good graphic designer is a lot like being a good photographer, it's is a lot harder than it appears. Technology has enabled and convinced many who aren't to think that they are.

I agree... your opinion is the most important. If you go bolder it does loose a bit of delicacy. (I actually like yours... that's what I used below.

I would ask your printer... Many times an imprint style font creates great results when printed by a press.

Either way, it looks great!

When I look at the original I find myself tilting my head.
The name screams BOUDIOR.

I agree with Janice's second point. I'd vote for keeping your family/children's portraits separate from your eventual boudoir business (names, Web sites). Maybe keep Haute for the boudoir portion.
