I always show a few in the beginning. It starts a great relationship and they feel good about what I did and what they are doing. I don't care that it is not edited. You only get a basic feel for the photo. I NEVER enlarge it as my screen show the data on the shot too.

I agree with most... I show a few images in the beginning of the shoot, and a few at the end. I have nothing to hide. If the pictures are great, why not show them? It defiantly builds confidence and a better relationship with your client.

Everyone is excited to see their pics right away.
I do the same thing. It really increases their confidence in me and themselves. I also use it for posing problems.

Nothing revolutionary to add. I like to show models and subjects a few of the better images. It tells them that I am happy with what they are doing and in the case of unclad subjects it shows them that I am not going to take embarrassing angles, etc.
I never explain that they are unedited or whatever. I think people are smarter than we give them credit for sometimes.

It totally depends on the situation.

I've had shoots where I put gaffers tape over the LCD.

I show it to them always. Usually before they ask, so they know things are going well. That way I.. 1) keep control of the situation and 2) brighten their mood when I show them the good shots.

On a boudoir shoot though, I agree with Holly's assessment, I would probably wait until after to show them.

I only show them the LCD if I *really* like the image.. I've had people ask to look at it after every shot (which gets kinda annoying) - I say, "Look, you hired me for a reason.. TRUST ME."

I have always let them see 1 or 2 and explain that I shoot in RAW and Neutral Color tone so this image will look nothing like the end result

Im just wondering, what do you say?

on my only portrait shoot so far, I tethered my camera to a 14" laptop and positioned it where the subject could see the shots as I was going along. After about 10 or 15 shots I told them I needed to disconnect the computer now so I could move round better, they really seemed to like the shots showing up on the screen as they were taken and didnt ask to see another after I disconnected the computer. Certainly no ideal for every situation but it worked out ok for me. I also like to do that when I am shooting still life or studio macro.

BTW: I did this once and it ruined showing in the LCD forever.

I was shooting with my 40D and I loved a shot. I wanted the couple to feel better because they were a little stiff, so I stopped the session and showed them the shot I was so happy with. Great expressions, great light, blah blah blah.

The LCD on cameras (esp the 40D) are bad for judging sharpness. And this picture wasn't sharp. That couple asked me a few times for that picture I showed them on the camera during the shoot.

Then I get to explain that I blew the shot. Yay!

It's hard to hide the 22" LCD when I'm shooting tethered which is pretty much all the time in the studio. The LCD on the P45 digital back is total crap and useless for viewing any image. I think my 8 year old's Hannah Montana 3MP digital has a better display

If they wanna see one or two shots, I'm more than happy to comply. More than that, I just tell them to wait till I'm done processing as the LCD is not the correct view medium for my work.

LoL, this is one of the reasons why I don't trust the LCD. I only use it to check histogram for shots that might not have exposed correctly.
