Any one ever bid on a Prom ? - 01-28-2010, 04:33 PM

A person contacted me today, they were wanting a bid on a prom.
Aprox 100 students. I have never done this, I have considered in the past.

Any one have any insight on how to approach this?

Approach it well-informed. Will the school want a kickback? Will you be able to do pre-orders? Give them prints right away on-site? I've never done it, either, but those and myriad other questions spring to mind.

I did ask a girl to the prom once, and that turned out OK.

Someone asked me today about a drill team event. I assume it is like a prom, except less fancy dress and parents instead of boyfriend. I do not even know where to start on a price for package price. They also said something about some snapshots. How do you price this sort of thing. They buy, you make money? Anyone ever buy the snapshots? Anyone?

Usually proms and dances are done on speculation. You would offer several packages (I usually have 5) at different prices. Maybe start at 2-5X7's for $20.00 and go up from there. If the sponsoring group wants a $5.00 "commission" then add that to your prices. For really small groups or off season dances we ask for a guarantee of at least $300.00 in sales. All of our events like this are prepay at the time photos are created. If we don't deliver the finished orders to the sponsoring group, we add $3.00 for shipping and handling to each order. You will need a written agreement that spells out what you will do and what the organization will do.

I wish you had posted this sooner, you could have tagged along on a homecoming dance I did last Saturday. I have a Father/Daughter Dance on February 6 if you are interested.

Selling snapshots is not worth the time and effort from my experience.

Hi Betty, I hope you did not mind me joining in. I figured your thread was close enough to the same as my previous

Thanks Don, I appreciate the info. Everything is priced so differently. Does the offer stand for me also???? I would love to tag along to your Father/Daughter dance. You are a little far away, so I probably could not, but I would love to.

That has been my experience with snapshots also.

That is great info Don, I did not have any idea on the work flow. That gave me some thing to think about and go by. What time is your dance? I have 2 sessions that day, but I can probably be finished in time.

The event is in Coppell. I'll be setting up at 5:00 and start at 6:00. These little girls are mostly under the age of ten. The event will end by 10:00. A normal prom will go to midnight or later.

Joyce, you always have an open invitation. You're right about the distance, but anytime you are going to be in this area send me a PM and we can get together.
