Marketing Resources? - 02-01-2010, 11:59 AM

Anyone know of any good photography marketing books or resources. I am specifically looking at HS Senior and Family portrait photography.

I really suck at all aspects of marketing/selling but I realize that if I want to grow I need to invest heavily (time) in this area. I've spent the last few years in learning how to take pictures, but that's only part of the equation.

Thanks in advance.

I know several photographers who have had good success using Marathon Press Marketing program. It is more than the price of a book, but they have different levels for you to choose. We used it for several years for our baby plan. You can check it out.

I know a BUNCH of great books on marketing and selling. Ive become insane and think its fun! lol.

From all the workshops and classes Ive taught, Ive noticed there are two types of learners.

1. This type needs everything spelled out and fine tuned. Then they take specific information and apply it directly to their business.

2. This type takes the principle of the technique (WHY it works) and dissects it to apply it to their own method. Fine tuning is done after application.

So, what do you want? Resources with info on type 1 or type 2?

Type 1 initially. Then Type 2.

My immediate goal is to get some specific methods of marketing that I can just pick up and apply to what I'm trying to do. At this point I don't really need the theory aspect. If I see that it works I think I can figure out the why part.

Hope this makes sense.

I'm pretty flexible when it comes to learning and would love to read some marketing books.

IMHO Book Yourself Solid is a must read: Amazon.com: Book Yourself Solid: The Fastest, Easiest, and Most Reliable System for Getting More Clients Than You Can Handle Even if You Hate Marketing and Selling (9780470281901): Michael Port, Tim Sanders: Books

I just finished the audible.com version.
