Logo/Watermark Opinion - 03-31-2010, 11:04 PM

Designing a new logo/watermark for by photo bizs (plural), since they all start with an "S" (Steelsun Photo & Art, Sunstock Photo, Shoot Houston), I figure to use one logo featuring an S for all three (well, since they share the same tax ID too, why not).

Have gone through dozens of ideas, combinations, etc with a designer. The latest ones I am liking are both variations on the same theme.

My question to y'all is which do you like best, or do they both suck rotten eggs?

(as an aside - I may put text above and below the aperture depending on which ever site it goes on, I.e. Steel + Sun, Sun + Stock, or Shoot + Houston)

They both look like a hurricane to me.

I concur with Thomas. They both look like weather symbols and not 'nice' ones at that...

The one on the right looks more like an "S" than the one on the left. It didn't evoke "hurricane" to me immediately (it does now), but I also wonder if showing the aperture blades evokes "photographer" to the average would-be client?

Thanks all.

My wife thinks they kind of look like propellers. :D

Mariano, if you want to give it a whirl, I'd certainly appreciate it.

I've done about 100 myself, and the designer I am working with (friend doing it comp) has given me about a dozen, but nothing has quite grabbed me yet.

Since the main company name is "Steelsun" (like my nick), I've tried tons of Sun stylized logos, but nothing really hit yet. One idea was to do a stylized sun with an aperture center.

Attached is a stylized aperture I made a few years ago for possible use one day.
Also attached is a sun/keltic knot tattoo I found and may get on my arm. I was thinking this might make a nice logo (if I get rid of the smiley face)

Combined the two I just uploaded as this. Any better? Maybe a stylized "S" in the center?

With an almost 2 to 1 ratio of suckage to goodage, I guess I'll not use either logo and keep trying.
Thanks for the opinions, I value them.
