Studio Space Size - 04-15-2010, 09:22 PM

I normally would say that I don't have enough studio work to consider renting my own dedicated studio space, but i was just presented with an opportunity to rent a small space along with a friend of mine. It's only 22'x18', barely 400 sq ft. 16' ceiling. Just one room. I won't have more details until I see it for myself tomorrow but it does share some common areas with other artists. But what I'm concerned with is the size of this one room. I do some product photography and wouldn't mind dabbling in the occasional model shoot. Would you be comfortable in this size space? Anyone have a similarly sized space with pics of it all set up with your equipment?
Like I said, i don't have any more details other than it's small and ugly, but it's space nonetheless and it would only cost me $250/month to share and just a few extra bucks (literally) for utilities.

Sweet, I would go for it and more BIZ will start rolling in!
The room is not bad and not great, but if all you do is one, two or a few people it should be enough.....the key thing to this studio rental is location!

GOOD LUCK!

My studio camera room is 18x30 w/10ft ceilings, my last camera room was 12x24 w/9ft ceilings, before that the camera room was 29x36 w/11ft ceilings, these sizes do not include storage, office, sales, dressing room, restroom or computer room. But as you can see I have run a full time portrait and wedding studio in many different size rooms. Good luck and if I can be of any help, feel free to call me anytime.

Well i did some more research and decided to take the space.
Sharing with a friend so the cost is only $250/month. I figure I'll try it for a year and see what comes of it. One or two decent jobs and that's paid for. If anything I'll get some interesting experiences out of it.
It's the Hardy and Nance St Studios downtown. Art Crawl goes through there twice a year and they have some other smaller shows. I get a small space in the hall outside my studio to hang a few prints and of course the whole studio will be open during events. Should be pretty fun. The girl I'm sharing it with is an artist and has lots of show experience.

So where's that thread we used to have that showed everyone's studio space? I can't find it.

250.00 a month seems more than reasonable. One 1500.00 dollar building shoot would cover a lot of months. LOL

I haven't posted many photos yet, but my new space is 38x40 with only 9' ceilings. But I also have access to a 1600' garage area below my space that has 15' with no support columns in the way!

We're in the space, but since I have no need for it at this moment, it's taken a back seat and i haven't done much other than get my stuff in and work on building some stuff for it. Especially with me being out of town for over a week.
