Photography insurance - 04-20-2010, 03:28 PM

Can anyone recommend a good company to insure photography equipement through (used professionally, with international travel)? I'm also curious what a good rate on a liability policy would be..., although am more interested in the equipment coverage.

Thanks!

I'll assume you've never heard of Professional Photographers of America !

Group insurance rates are always better than what you can find on your own.

I use Hartford. When I compared mine to PPA, came to about the same amount, too lazy to switch unless they offer something of great important to me. Not sure about international travel, you can always ask them.

I also went with Hartford and they do provide international coverage, I haven't have to make a claim yet *knock on wood*.

I use the Hartford through USAA and agree with what Ken has stated.

Getting ready to take my gear on vacation I got off my duff and ordered a USAA policy on my gear. About $17,000 in items (replacement costs, excludes the small stuff) and a policy is about $200 a year.

I had rested on my homeowners before. When I called a year ago I was told my gear was covered under homeowners but a specific policy would eliminate the deductible in a claim. In fact theft and loss is covered, based on what I was told yesterday.

I am not a pro. I wonder, for those of you doing this, what would coverage through PPA cost plus membership? Assuming anyone can be a member??

I also have Hartford...

My rate just went down a bit, but it is $725.00, which includes coverage for the studio, general liability, and replacement coverage.
