Wondering if any of you Certified professional photographers could post some sample questions from the test. Thinking about taking it at Texas School, hoping your questions can help convince me either way.
I've seen the 10 on the CPP website.

Hi Ms April,
I'm on the fence about taking the CPP as well, not sure what the benefits are?
I have three certifications on IT (MCSD.Net, MCDBA, MCAD.Net) but I never really got anything out of them, except for the salary raise, so now with the CPP I'm having doubts if its really worthwhile.
I mean the bragging rights is nice and all but does it translate to more customers?

well for me it proves that I am not just another mom with a camera. Have I ever been treated that way? No but I wonder if the tittle would help people sort out the over populated field.
Another reason I want to get it is a Photographer friend let me in on something, All the CPP's are going to be starting a big campaign at the bridal show next year. About the benefits of a CPP. There were 13 photogs at the show and only 3 (I think) were certified.
I dunno, I guess it's just personal preference.

On a direct comparison like that, what if one, or more, of the uncertified photographers have better work than the certifieds? Will that emblem make the bride choose a certified?

Personally, I think that a pro should be able to answer the questions on the CPP exam. But, is the certification worth it... I don't know.
I have never met a client, or prospective client, where it has meant anything to them. Simply having the certification won't make you any money. Pursuing it may make you a better photog. And if you know how you're going to market and sell yourself it may help. But, in and of itself, it will mean a lot more to you than to the public.

I never understood the appeal to getting a PPA certification. My clients don't know what PPA is or that it exists. I'm a full time salaried photographer. CPP doesn't add any benefit to my clients or me.

I enjoyed taking the CPP....just for my own experience. The stuff I 'knew'... I knew.... the stuff I didn't....I could reason some of it.... but I'd say, at this point, I don't think I passed it.
The test isn't created by a photographer... it is created by a phd guy who just determines what a 'general' knowledge of photography should encompass. There were lots of color space questions.... lots...

I've had a bride recently ask me if I were certified, would have been nice to say 'yes'. I'll be taking the exam at some point this year.

And at least two grand and a couple of days or weeks of your life depends how fast you can come up with the image submissions.
I'm still 50-50. I mean the money alone I can invest on a bridal show and at least have a chance to recoup the money if I do it right.
But again like what Allen said, what if a prospect asked and it was a deal breaker for them.

It only takes $100 to take the test..that's nothing. I figure if it helps give me an edge, then so be it. In todays market, I will take every edge I can get.

Marius - you can submit digital files now, versus prints.

@Renae: Yup $100 is nothing but that is if you're quite knowledgeable about the core concepts of photography specially film. I know rudimentary film but not at the level the CPP requires so for sure I will spend a couple of hundred bucks on review materials alone.
@Donna: I just realized that lol but still, overall cost ain't cheap.
Allen suggested Sandy Puc's study group for the CPP, so I signed up and hopefully if time permits I too can take the exam next year =)
