New logo and branding, would love your thoughts? - 05-16-2010, 12:07 PM

Hey everyone, I've been looking to create a new logo for landscape photography use.

I tried to keep it simple and iconic. I wanted something that wasn't a typical aperture blades, or camera body type of logo. I wanted it to be 1 or 2 color, something that would be flexible, yet still be centric enough to meet its goals.

What do you think? I've spent a good bit of time revising this, but I think I'm pretty close:

On a sidenote, I have other names that I've been toying with using - do you think any of these would work better?

Just from my very amateur point of view.... I like it, but the words are overpowered by the graphics.

Hmm, yeah, I had an issue with that too. My problem is that the top word is so long that I can't easily make it bigger in height and still keep it in the same area - width wide.

It's been buggin me too.. just can't figure out a way to get the type larger without busting the balance up.

Ok, I've bumped up the text as large as I can get it to. Is that better?

I like it.

Depicts good imagery that goes with the name, yet is simple and translates well into B&W (something alot of people don't think about - your logo should fax well - something Enron lost $100s of thousands on when they had to rebrand because the original yellow on part of their E did not fax).

i like the tricolored ones better than the B&W. its easier to focus on, but i think it may look better in a slightly richer color. it needs a little bit more pop.

Yes, I kinda went with muted colors - which is a bit more my style. It's also a lot more enduring than some of the other more dramatic colors - which may fade in popularity down the road. Subtle earth tones tend to last, in my mind anyways.

Anyways, here is some different color treatments, anything jump out at anyone?

I'd pick the Blue/Grey one in the lower right, but then I am partial to those colors.

Heck, make the Mountain 18% grey, then you would always have a grey card with you as your business card.

Too much to visually digest IMHO.

I think it needs a tag line. I can clearly see the name of your company, but from the logo I have no idea of what you are selling. Do you take portraits of people at twilight? Do you sell landscapes?

Ha, that's a good idea... not sure if that would be too light for the logo though.

Well, I don't know how I can get it to any less components and still keep the message and symbolism.

The sun/moon on one side, the stars on the other - both visible == twilight.
The landscape elements and the city elements == flexibility for either landscapes or architecture - both are my primary markets.

Thanks, I agree about the tagline, but I don't believe in including taglines in logos. To me, they are separate items and need to be treated as such. Taglines change, logos don't (or at least shouldn't).

I will be including the info about what etc, on my business cards and website.

Thanks for the thoughts everyone, good stuff!
