I think at actual size, your text is going to be very small and hard to read.
Put a business card up next to the image on the screen.. then resize the image on your screen until its nearly the same size as an actual card to see what I mean.

I like your second one. The Gradient background is good enough over your reflection idea on the first one.
Good luck with jumping in the biz. It took me a moment as well to jump in, but I am doing well.
You can do it.

You are at 8pt. Even though I've seen many a large company get away with this size. It is a bit small especially coming off a 4-c background. It's going to be really tough to hold a crisp edge even with lithography printing. If you're going to have these run on something like a Docu-color you may not be happy with the results. As far as the design goes ..... They are on the same par as point-and-shoot snapshots, both are adequate. Hope this helps. Good luck.

i liked the arrangement of the second one myself and was not sure of the reflection on the first one, i thought maybe it was too much...we plan on printing them on a glossy paper. Thank you texkam for your honest opinion.....we actually have a gig saturday night and needed something quick so we decided to go with something simple...

I prefer the second one. But because you list three things you do, on one card it seems that you are unfocused. You might consider listing photography and video on one and Event Invitations on another. But in a pinch it will do.

I like the layout of the second one and the reflection on the first one. The "LNJ" is nice. It rolls off the tongue nicely.

Jusselin,
Just food for thought....
1) You may consider choosing another font that does not have the small serifs. The serif contributes to the font feeling "smaller". In addition to making it harder to read, it has a significant impact if/when you create any signage or branding for your vehicle, studio etc. This may have no effect now, but you should strive to design for the future.
2) Gradient looks awesome on the web, but is significantly more expensive to print to match the desired effect. I too use a gradient, but it does not look good unless printed on the highest quality card stock, and by a very good printer. Given that you do invitations I am assuming you already know this, but thought I would bring it up anyway. Same thing goes for signage, you now have a "print on" or screen application, rather than being able to do reverse cut or weeded vinyl.
3) You might consider dropping "event" before photography, unless it is the only work you will ever do. As a bride, I might not correlate the blue card and "event" verbiage to someone who does wedding photography (assuming you do, you may not). They may assume you do only corporate events given that the card looks somewhat "commercial". This may or may not be a bad thing depending on your target audience.
4) This is really my biggest concern. If you want to get into the invitation game, I suggest really having a powerful card printed on something like torchon parchment or some other unique paper. You want people to know right away what you can do, and this is an easy way to make a big impact that they can see and feel.
Good Luck.
W

Am no design dude so I won't touch the look but here's a couple of thoughts:
- I agree with Warren drop the "Event" unless you only want to do events
- I feel you should have a separate biz card just for the invitations biz, I dunno it doesn't flow too well with photography and videos.
- Why not get a number from Google voice and just point all your numbers from there rather than having two separate numbers printed?
- Aren't biz cards suppose to be specific to the person handing them out? meaning one set for you and one set for louie?
- Have you considered doing back-to-back printing? one side for photo and the other side for video?

Too bad.
Well, good luck then. For sure you'll be redesigning your card in the near future, so take all tips here for the next one =) | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
