Hypothetical situation - 06-03-2010, 07:36 PM

Let's say you are in business manufacturing widgets and your business partner (informal agreement) has control of the web site, samples, brochures, etc decides they've had enough and just close down the website, etc. without any preliminary discussion with you.
How do you react to this ?
Rage?
Fear?
Indifference?

Are you upset with the partner for his actions or at yourself for giving someone else this much control over your business?

Forever the statesman Mr. Barnes.

This of course, is a hypothetical situation.....
so, I could be both, assuming it were real. I might be mad that it was done without ANY discussion, and I might be mad that I had NO CONTROL....but of course, I don't manufacture widgets.

Did you have any money tied up in this?

If you did, I could see having an issue.

If not, you may not have lost anything worth trying to reclaim.

Learn the lesson and move on.

But is money the only measure of worth ? What about the investment of time and talent as well as the agony of give and take that occurs when two people try to make a go of a business. I don't suppose the widget world would be impacted by this, but it could feel personal if you indeed enjoyed making widgets.

The other thought is how much time/money did your "partner" have tied up in this.

Maybe She/He felt it was not worth Her/His time.

Look at it from the other side.

So you are hinting that you agree that it's OK to just go ahead and toss your business down the toilet without any discussion with the other person ?

I understand the personal side of it.

But business is business.

That is why you don't get involved with family or friends.

At this point your choices are.

Get over it and salvage the friendship.

Don't get over it and salvage nothing.

No, I didn't think that was part of the equation..

I thought it was done and we were starting from that point.

This scenario didn't mention family or friends.
I take it this is another vote for just letting people **** over you and '

Completely hypothetical, so all avenues remain open I guess, hypothetically.

OK, If it had been me and I wanted out. I would have tried to sell you my half of the business.

I understand that they dont discuss it before doing it, but do I find out from them or by discovering that the site is down?

Let's say they send you an email or voicemail saying "I've shut down the business" and tough **** to you !

or

Let's say they call you and say "I've already closed the website and am closing the bank account".
