Question Stock Photo prices... - 06-19-2010, 10:39 AM

I was contacted by a pet oriented business, who is needing shots of a dog or cat, or both, to use for a logo and marketing pieces.

They say they can't afford my $150 session fees, but want to buy a stock image.

How are stock images priced?

PhotoQuote is pretty good software and not real pricey. Lot's of Pro's use it. Keyword Finder on the other hand is trash

They may be looking at a microstock company, like istock. You can't compete with that on price...

pet photos --- I think they fall under the strict definition of "stock" photos..LOL

You can't compete with stock companies pricing. If you want to sell them a photo or two for a few dollars that's your business, but it doesn't make for good business practices.

Try to sell them on the advantages of getting photos of 'their' pets or 'their customers pets'.....?

they are likely to also believe that if they pay you a sitting fee they can then use the photos for whatever they feel like....and of course we know that isn't how it works.

Hopefully it won't be a pet that the owner can readily identify and there is no property release on file for.
