Anyone looking to share a studio? - 08-18-2010, 12:27 PM

Mods: Not sure if this is where this belongs but I didn't really see anything like this here (or anywhere for that matter using adv search)

I'm getting to the point where I feel it would look 'more professional' to have a studio space rather than shooting in my home studio.

So I've been looking at executive suites and such. I've found a couple that I could do on my own, but I figured I'd put it out there to see if someone (or more?) might want to go in together so I/we could have a bigger spot. My goal is to have a space that would accomidate a 9ft roll of seemless, and enough room to shoot full body with a 50mm. So, I'd be looking for -at least- a single 10x30 room with at least a 9ft ceiling. Ideally it would be a 15x30 shooting room, and a 12x12 reception/storage/desk/changing room.

At this time I see myself using it 1-2 weekend days and 1-2 week days per month. There'd be a calendar to reserve dates.

Here's how it would work:
  • month-to-month contract (the lease from the building would be m2m)
  • $100-300/m depending on location and number of people
  • full service location: utils and housekeeping provided so no other "rent" costs

James, I'd be interested to at least discuss, depending on where you are looking in the DFW area.

James, you might check with Darryl Briggs. He has studio out near Walnut Hill and 35. He has a lot of space and rents some of it out to other photographers. Photography by Darryl Briggs

Oh, sweet! I live on the edge of Deep Ellum - between it and Lakewood, so you are talking in the right direction for me for most of your choices. There are a fair number of folks down this way, so maybe we could find a group of people that would make this very reasonable. I love the idea of having a place to keep backgrounds, etc. set up and would not use it a lot, but would love having space from time to time. Anyway, would be happy to talk further. I am jammed up this week, but shoot me an email about what you may be finding. I know that a few people have done collective space before (Scott W, for one). Love to hear feedback on how that has worked.

Would be interested, especially in the top couple areas that you listed. I believe that there may be some space slightly larger than you want on Main Street that the landlord would love to lease out on a longer lease (she is looking for something other than a bar or restaurant with their parking restrictions) at a reasonable price per sq ft. This larger space would allow you to have a couple more spaces set up and allow more photographers to work out of it and maybe get more attention to the space. (It is real close to the old Blind Lemon location-space has been empty for a while now also).

Now I will be out of touch for a bit but like I said I would be very interested, been mulling on getting some studio space for the last few months.

David this is for people looking in the Central Business District area of Dallas, I'm not willing to drive 35+ miles one way for a studio space.

David, it's a kind offer. Ideally, though, I'd like something that is close to home, like Paul said, but I do always keep my alternative options in the back of my mind. Still got that bathtub over there? I know, I know.....I was invited to come check it out and still haven't made it out there. lol.

I wouldnt want to drive this far either, but when Doc first posted, I was thinking he was in Irving, and Hurst beats not shooting at all :)
Lisa, of course I still have the tub, and it can make LOTS of bubbles in about 2 minutes. Come on in, the water is FINE :)
