Facebook- Any Tips - 09-01-2010, 02:09 PM

I am trying to setup My company On facebook and right now it is just not working...

I would like to find a way to have it separate from my personal Account and be able to send and receive messages and stuff like that.

Can anyone share some help on that?

Also how did you set up your facebook and how is it working for you?

Yes I know SEARCH! but I did :)

you need to set it up as a group rather than person. or even a fan page.

Look down the left side. You set it up as a group or a separate page. See the icons?

if you want to setup to receive separate messages and stuff it has to be it's on profile not a fan page. meaning you add friends instead of people "liking" you.

facebook doesnt really like that, but people do it...your name gets tricky because it thinks you are actually a person.

do a group or a fan page

We have a fan page and it works great. You can link back and forth b/t your personal page, blast fans, send messages via your fan page, and post events and stuff. I have seen FB pull biz pages that were created under personal - with no warning. So everything gets lost and you have to start over. Dont do that. You'll kick yourself.

The main thing to getting it going is to have 4-5 folks who talk/ write on the wall. Others will chime in. Active walls get more fans.

I started a page for my book about 6 weeks ago. Its already very active. You can peek, and trail back to the 1st threads. My photo fan page is below. That one is older, so it may be harder to see the progression. Same idea though. TALK. Post stuff. Cross link. Tah dah!

I get almost all of my business from Facebook. I tag clients (they have to be your personal friend first). Send out to all of your friends to become a fan (most are happy to) and then it starts snowballing. Every time I shoot and tag someone I get more and more fans. I also ran a contest once for a free shoot for whoever could send me the most fans. I got nearly 300 more fans in a matter of days. After 5 mths, I have lost very few of those fans.

I'm at 722 fans now.

Holly just kicks butt at everything. She got that many fans on her new novel fan page in days. LOL

Make certain any pics are ready to be taken..... without your permission.

I could care less about people taking my pics. They have my watermark and they get the disk anyway. It's funny cause my clients love their pics so much they advertise the heck out of me and they don't even bother to replace the (unobtrusive) watermarked pics with the unmarked version.

Almost ALL of my business comes from Facebook.

My book has 1294 fans! Wahoo! I'm aiming for 2,000 by the end of next week.

I'm about to launch a new boudoir thingie for holiday. Im gonna spike those pages too. Fun stuff.

And yup, watermark everything that goes on FB and people taking it is your free WOM referrals.

My only suggestion is to learn the photography part first, then worry about the facebook page. You only get one chance to make a first impression, and if someone comes by your FB page with amateurish photography, they may never give you a second look.

Well, I kinda agree, but I had friends support me even when I sucked. I just didn't have many OTHER fans until later :) Now, I am at 729 fans and I only have 406 friends, and 80 of those are clients.

Friends are one thing, complete strangers/customers are usually brutally honest. Keep in mind they are spending money on what you producing, so they expect what every other customer will, QUALITY!. I take what my friends say about my work lightly(not to say i dont care or appreciate what they tell me).

Remember, how a client or customer reacts to their photographs is more important than anything else. It will make or break you as far as your return goes.

In the past i never let the customer see the neg/proof until i was able to see it on the enlarger. You dont want them to say WOW to a later scratched neg. or in the case of digital, a non processed image(darkroom work is no different than using Camera RAW, Lightroom, PS CSx)
