I bought one ... but then froze it because I was thinking it may be something that will just get you a bunch of spam.

I haven't gotten spam, but I really haven't gotten business from it either. It's great for visibility and getting new fans, but that about it from my perspective.

Hmmm ... yeah I am worried that I might be paying for something that will not really do anything for me but give me fans. I am all about getting fans, but not at a rate of 25 bucks a month.

That's the whole reason I stopped using the ads as much. Now I only use it (when I think about it) to hype up our presence at a show or something.

Well think of this way, Jasmin Star rose from obscurity to rock star status all because of social networking sites like Facebook so there maybe something to it, we just need to find the secret sauce =)

Networking... You have your fans on your fanpage suggest your page to their friends. It's cheaper and produces better quality leads, as opposed to someone who solely relies on ads.

I have one running now, and I have run them in the past. I haven't gotten any spam from it, and I have booked some sessions from the ad. I just can't afford to constantly do them. Mine don't cost $25/month. If they did, I would always run them. I think my daily spending limit is capped at $5.00/day, and my latest one, the click rate is around $1.35. I just started it today, and I've already reached my limit lol. It can really add up!

Yeah that is my issue. The first month actually ran up to 60 bucks ... 2.50 a day. And then last month was around 25.
I just didn't see the reason of spending the monthly expense. I was weighting out my cost of advertising to cash flow, and at the moment it didn't fully make any sense.
Since I am only a part time freelancer, I am not fully pushing it, but I want to. I just have a nice studio gig that covers me 9-5 M-F and the freelance is at the moment covering my equipment.
But thanks for the insight guys. Maybe in a couple of months I will start it up again, probably once a month a quarter (4 months for the year) will I run it.

I spend pretty much the same as Ms Leslie. And if you look at the bigger picture, I think its cheaper than buying an ad from the other places were you have no control on how to display your ads.
I mean take for example Wedding Wire, just for the enhanced listing you have to pay $900 a year and $1,400 to be featured same story with the Knot at least $2,500 per annum.

Hmm ... Thanks for the info Marius. Maybe I will start it back up. At the moment, I want to aim at no more than 35-40 bucks a month on it.
Maybe I need to re-word the ad some.

Other thing - a recent study showed the average value of a fb fan is roughly $137 per fan. Huge study. Dont underestimate the power of only getting fans. They are more valuable than hits on your blog or website b/c they openly claim affiliation/ loyalty to your studio/ brand. That's worth more than $60 imho.
You need to be utilizing your fan base.

Curious, for those running ads or setting them up to run... did you choose certain criteria for your target audience?
I ran one a few months ago. Had the same problem that I got a lot of clicks over to the fanpage, but only a handful of actual fans signing up, and was going thru the money pretty fast. But then, I changed the targeting preferences to hit certain job titles, certain ages, etc... It went thru the money much slower, but also slowed down the subscription rate for the fanpage as well. I never wound up booking a session from the ads, even when offering a 20% discount on sessions booked using the ad.

Just a thought: If you happen to be one of the thousands who has a daily Starbucks habit, put that money towards your FB advertising. Once it pays off, you can buy all the Starbucks you desire (if that's really what you want :-).

Thanks Holly ... I definitely see where you guys are coming from.
I have re-started it and I hope to grab some fans visit the page.
I am going to start doing some videos or something to gather more peeps.
And I need to change up the ad a bit in wording.
