Images on CD for family session - 10-04-2010, 01:00 PM

I have a request to do a family shoot but she wants the images on CD. I have an idea oh how much to charge for the CD but my question is how many images to provide. I don't want to retouch every image from the shoot so I need to establish a max number of images that I will provide.

The prices will be based on 1 hour or two hour session.

I've never provided images on CD before so if anyone can share some insight on how this works it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

On a family session I generally only offer the CD after a minimum purchase of prints, however in your case if your are set on this selling method you might set the number of images your selling as part of your package, let the client view and pick that number, then provide final post and disc. Something to keep in mind with this method however, is that most people have a difficult time narrowing down the images they want, so you might consider just selecting the final number of images your including yourself, and putting them on a disc for the client.

Cheers,

W

I dont know if it helps... but I offer CD's of the images for sale at $400... but I shoot dogs. I also only include 25 images or less, that *I* picked.

25 or less sounds good. I was thinking no more than 20 but my guess is that the person I'm dealing with is going to be expecting tons of images for hardly no money, but you never know.

Warren,
The way I see it these days is that it doesn't matter how you deliver the goods as long as you make it worth your while. On a family shoot I don't do a ton of different poses so there shouldn't be a whole lot of different looks. I will select the best shots from each look/pose and let them decide from there so there shouldn't be that many to choose from.

I get that question all the time, especially when the pet owner stays in the studio to observe the shoot. I have to explain to them that I eliminate multiples, and provide them with only the images that will look great on their walls.

I also only offer a CD to clients after they purchase my mid and above package/collection.
My CD's are sold separately and are NOT included in these packages.
