How do you deliver wedding photos on DVDs to clients? - 10-28-2010, 08:20 PM

How do you deliver wedding photos to clients if all you deliver are the photos on DVDs?

When I deliver prints I always feel that I have more tangible products to deliver but I have nothing when I deliver clients' wedding pictures on DVDs. At least this is the way I feel. You know what I mean...?

How can I make the DVDs more stylish? I know, I can lightscribe them. I can label them, etc. But how should I package them? Is there a store/website with nice stylish packaging materials for wedding photos on DVD? I am not really looking for the old style cheese plastic wedding covers. I am looking for something more modern and stylish...

I hope it helps others as well.

I use THESE Then I use the a CD lable kit. I put a label on the CD, and put the mailing label on the inside with my print release, then put the spine sticker on the outside with my logo on it.

I showed Heather those tins originally... I use a printable CD (printed on my inkjet printer that has a built in CD tray) and then put a sticker on the outside of the tins. I've done this for my commercial clients for years.

I think Paco had the idea of using an iPod touch or iPad to put the images on.

The iPad is a good idea but then the cost to offer images will significantly jump higher maybe even more than that of a flush mount album. Plus you have the issue of the hardware failure which inadvertently may mean the client losing their precious pics.

32GB touch is $300. I wouldn't expect anyone to leave the pictures on the device though.

I really like the custom CD holders from millers, BWC and other labs.

Question: If you are giving your clients cd's are you educating them on the life span of the cd you are giving them?

$300 to acquire the device yes but you can't expect to break even if you don't markup. So that $300 becomes $900 plus say if you're charging $500 for the images so the total selling price becomes $1400 that's how much I sell my 12"x12" 25 side flush mounts.

$300 seems a little bit too pricey...I agree.

You only need the 8gb iPod touch. Plus, if you were to do that, you would not want to up-charge to $900 for it, at least not look like you are.
Say you charge $500 for the files now, on your next pricing change, start charging $800 and include a *free iPod!! The goal isn't to make money on the ipod itself, the goal is to impress the client without hurting your bottom dollar. Also, the ipod shouldn't affect your album sale at all. It's not replacing the album, it's replacing the DVD of images......which is only available to purchase if you buy an album
BTW, your photos will be shown to many more people if you go with the iPod.

But that said, you still need to have nice packaging either way.

I do custom CD cases through WHCC with their images on the cover, their names, and the dates. They get rave reviews, they're sturdy, and functional.

For presentation my wife came up with the idea of gift bags. When we see wedding related gift bags we buy them up. They dress up nicely, and they feel more substantial when you hand them to them.

Rice Studio Supply has some neat boxes (metal tins, folios) for presenting DVDs.

I think the iPod is a brilliant idea ... I've even seen albums that have a little holder for the iPod in them so you can make the sale a real winner. The iPod alone is about adding value, presenting something hi-tech that makes you look good and also appearing to give a "gift" even though it would be more than paid for in your markup. If the client was a pain in the butt, I'd make them settle for a Zune. :-)
