Marketing Company

So ... I was contacted by a company called Service Magic ...

They tell me they have tons of leads that could help me emerge more as a pro in world of Video and Photography.

Now, I am a bit hesitant about doing marketing gimmicks over the phone.

I did read up about them, and there are mixed reviews from good to bad.

The setup fee is 100 bucks and of course they get a small percentage for every lead that I receive.

But, I wanted to hear if anyone here has heard of them, one, and two have had any experience with them. Good or bad.

Would love to jump onit, but am being very cautious about it. I am not hurting for leads, but would be nice to have another step for marketing my services.

IMO... if you're going to hire a marketing or advertising firm, you should've been approached personally and be presented with some sort of campaign to spark your interest... and meet in person to go over your needs and whatever direction you'd like to move in.

and... good marketing is not $100... it's much more expensive.

I've worked with Service Magic before we all but stopped using them because the quality of their leads. They claim their leads are qualified, but in my experience most of them were dead long before we received them. I should note that this was for a home contractor leads not photography.

I'd pass and find better marketing efforts.

Yeah I read alot of recent ones that stated the leads were crap. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't hitting anything bad.

The Rep was really trying to push it ... but still felt hesitant.

Hence why I asked the Trusty TPF crowd, you guys.

They are more of a Real Estate related company than anything else. I'm really syuprised that they have branched out so much. The CEO is a good guy, and the company was bought a few years back by Barry Diller, the owner of LEnding Tree.com At least you know they arent a scam, but photography leads?

Yeah, I don't know what consumer would be looking at Service Magic for a photographer. I've been proven wrong before.

See here is where the mix reviews become a bit confusing.

Most of the bad reviews come from the home contractors ... there aren't any bad reviews for photo and video guys in there. But also there aren't many reviews for that overall.

If they are good, I would hate to pass up a good thing ... but if they aren't that good ... than I will continue to keep my distance from them.
