Question about un-edited originals - 11-16-2010, 07:03 AM

I handed in PP pics to a client. She now wants the un-edited originals as well. I've never had a client ask me for the originals.
Do you guys ever hand in originals if asked?

I've never been asked by a portrait client for originals. Then again, I don't sell usually sell files.
The only times I would consider it(and probably only consider it) would be if I did some crazy processing on a photo that didn't look as good as I first thought.
Did you run any edgy actions/presets on the photos first?
Or did you liquify or remove a birth mark?

yeah, have never given originals and don't ever plan on giving originals. My clients have seen my work and pretty much know what to expect when they hire me. If they aren't happy with an image, I have reprocessed a few to give them totally different feels, but never given originals.

Sorry... Nobody gets my raw files unless contracted in a "work for hire" situation where my rate is substantially greater and I don't touch the files at all.

I did use some presets on the photos...but nothing too edgy.
It was a product shoot, with a model involved. The product was a dress sewn by a lady who hired me.

Personally, I'm not comfortable with handing over unedited photos. I've never been asked before. So I don't know how to handle this situation.

It wasn't work for hire. That's for sure.

OK, if I was the client I would have requested unedited photos from the start. Product shots are a little different in the fact that they will be(or could be) used in different media outlets. Like web, print, tv, etc.
The file will be treated differently if it's going to print in CMYK on an offset press then it would for a website. So IMHO, I would offer to give(or sell) them unedited 16 bit TIFF's.
