You people are talking about taxes and the State Comptrollers office........ I got a letter in the mail yesterday from them stating, and I quote, "Failure to file your return for this period caused this estimated billing which is due immediately. Collection action on this estimated liability will continue until you file your return and pay all tax, penalty, late filing penalty, and interest due."
They stated my amount due as of date of notice, $1,100.00. Oh, and if not paid in full by the 20th of December, another 12 cents per day in interest.
And, if not paid by the 20th of December, there would be another $100.00 penalty.
Well, they had MY attention...... I did in fact file. When I called them, they said, "Yes we have it. It just didn't get entered in time. Once the computer system sees you don't have a filing by the due date, the system automatically churns out a notice."
Whew, they had me worked up last night. It's all straightened out, but still had me going....
You can do all your reporting of sales taxes collected, (or lack thereof) online. You can even pay them online with a credit card. Just make sure you report your sales tax collections on time, and avoid getting a letter like I got.....
Large sigh of relief exhaled.......
