Holiday cards pricing - 11-30-2010, 03:56 PM

I'm changing gears to the press printed cards instead of the photo versions.

My question is this for those that offer press printed cards. The vendor offer price breaks and a bunch of sizes, what do you do?

Do you set the price at the highest amount, sell in packs of 5/10/25 and how many options do you offer?

I sell in packs of 25/50/100 and price it to my clients based on the regular price from the vendor.

If any vendor offers a special price on something, I usually do not pass it along to the client directly -- if it is longer term deal (lasting a month or more), I may bundle it with a special service of my own and pass some of the savings on to the client... that way I may get a sale I may not have normally had. For instance, a vendor is discounting their greeting cards for the months of November and December.. I make a special "Greeting Card Session" for a certain amount of money that includes the session and the cards. I make some money on those - but mostly I have an opportunity to upsell and can also pass it along to my clients as a thank you for being a client.

Makes sense but by price breaks I mean 6-12 $$$$ 13-24 $$$ 25-49 $$ 50+ $. That's how the vendor prices it anyway. So does a client that needs 25 cards pay the same price per card as one that needs 100 cards?

Also if a client needs 62 cards just get 75?

Ah .. yes, if that's the vendor I'm sold upon.. I would break up the pricing similarly... and I do have different price per cards for 25/50/100. I do not usually do that for prints (unless they were ordering 25 or more of the same image, then I guess I might).

I don't sell the cards individually. I just haven't ever had much demand to do so. So they are only available in packs. I've found that while having my url on the back of them is great for getting it into the hands of multiple people, I don't really have much of a return interest from them.

My pricing set up:

(24) 5x5 or 5x7 flat custom designed cards - $75 ($30 extra for each additional 25)
(24) 5x7 folded custom designed cards - $95 ($50 extra for each additional 25)
(24) 5x5 trifold custom designed cards - $110 ($60 extra for each additional 25)

I love the idea of the initial pack cost then the additional sets. Those are also the only cards I want to offer minus the 5x5 flat for holiday cards.

Thanks for the input

Happy to help!
Also, I start with 24 so that I can have a copy for my own samples. Although, lately I've been drop shipping, so I don't always get that one, and usually the lab will include a few extra. They're almost always going to get 25 on that initial order.
