What? No watermark!? - 12-12-2010, 10:22 PM

Ok so my automotive photography has gotten me noticed umoung the street performance and high end motorsports scene in Houston. I was approached by a small time blog/event coordination site to be an official photog; events and the such.

I agreed since its my first high profile gig.

now to the business end:

the owner of the group wants to announce my addition to them by showcasing a shot i did today of ten cars......without a watermark.

how should i approach this?

heres the shot:
no watermark

Maybe set it up in the contract that if they purchase the images without watermarks/branding then they need to provide a link back / credit to your website. It's a blog, they can throw in there a few times the name of your studio and then provide the link at the bottom.

They want images from you because they have value. Make them pay for the images. Do not give any work away for free. Be happy to let them use it without a watermark. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't get a credit.

Give them a watermark price and a non-watermark price. Make sure you are compensated for not being able to advertise your business.

And make sure it is known that your watermark cannot be edited or cropped out of any image, and doing so would be a copyright violation.

I like the two different prices suggestion, makes sense and that way you'll get some compensation out of the non-advertised image. I would rather have some sort of credit back, ESPECIALLY if it's a high profile blog that has a lot of followers.

Yes, definitely get a website up, wordpress is free, just need a domain/host.
