Portrait, Boudoir sessions and releases... - 12-22-2010, 02:01 PM

question for those of you shooting paid sessions for clients, portrait or boudoir or wedding or whatever. Photography has always just been a hobby of mine, I've never done it as a business and obviously when I hire or otherwise shoot models for artistic stuff getting a release is a given. I notice all the time on these and other boards professional shooters of weddings, portraits, etc, posting images from their sessions. My question is this... in the contract you write with the clients, are you getting a release to use the images in this way from them? Do you have to give some consideration from them to do so? Or is there some aspect of law that allows use of images from paid sessions for promotional use, etc?

Depending on where they were shot, I'm not sure if posting them on here would require a model release since this would be considered more editorial use. For sure anything used for commercial/promotional/gallery/portfolio purposes, even if shot on the street, would require a release.
