Whatever you do you better hurry up - as soon as the Super Bowl is over I'll bet they close that office and scoot back to Phoenix with all their money. A quick lawyer letter sounds like a quick way to get them to pay before their cash cow dries out....

Well, for a quick update, my lawyer is drafting a letter as we speak. The company was 2 weeks behind when I quit and are now over 3 weeks behind. The guy in charge of paying said he would mail it last Saturday and nothing ever happened. I talked to the owner who sounded even more stupid than the guy that hired me. I don't know if they think they will get away with not paying or what, but it's not happening. Thanks for all the advice all!

Ainslee,

Just checking on the latest status of this situation - any new developments? Did your lawyer letter generate any response? Here's hoping you have some good news..

Oh boy were there ever developments. Turned out this was a huge scam (not a huge shock there) that swept everyone that signed up for it for at least $900. There were over 200 houses signed up, not a one rented out, and not a single one got their money back. Not to mention, the man in charge of the "finance department" has pulled this two other times in Arizona and Kentucky. The attorney general in Kentucky is currently processing a whole boat-load of complaints on that particular man, and the attorney generals for Arizona and Texas are both being swamped with peeved Texans. The company didn't even pay the employees in their Dallas branch office, so they've jumped in on it too. Apparently we even have the FBI on it for the fraud that's been repeated. I wish I had done a search on the man before i started working. I could have at least saved myself the time and money.

As for the attorney letter, it didn't do any good. My lawyer even tried calling them numerous times, and they didn't even answer. I haven't bothered filing a lawsuit since I'm moving next week and wouldn't even have the time or resources to get back for the court date. Not to mention there's no promise they would even pay after I won. So, that's my latest update. No good news, but certainly makes for a good read, huh?

Wow, that is just not cool! But, I half-expected for it to come to this - every time a big event happens, there are always scammers like this that prey on others. I don't know how many houses you shot, but I also feel bad for all the homeowners that fell for this $900 lesson too.

If anything, this has probably taught you to ~never~ do anything without a contract. There's just too many people out there that you just can't trust. Live and learn, right?

You're right, though - it was an interesting read!

I would contact your lawyer and ask him/her to write a "letter of intent". Don't go al the way to court unless you have to. Just have the lawyer send a letter on their letterhead. It may get the results you want.
