I am sure it is not easy to answer but how much is the general price range for product photography? Just a general idea...

I would start by taking photographs of products. Then sell them.

Sorry - I couldn't help myself!

build a portfolio of your product photography work, then market yourself to those who might need your services.

First thing I can suggest is get Light: Science & Magic and learn how to light well. That's a start.

Contacts. Use contacts for getting clients to do Product Photography.

I made most of my photography income last year doing product/commercial photography, everything from small electronic parts to large industrial turbines. All through contacts I have from my main income stream (professional investigator).

Prices vary. On some projects I quoted per item, some was time based, some use based (i.e. catalog v. billboard v. brochure, etc)

Even on the per item pricing it varies - the price per electronic component shot was much less than the price per item I charged a sports memorabilia agency.
