OK, the seniors at my local high school are required by the school, to have their cap & gown images done at a large studio. This studio appears to have contracts with approximately 15 high schools. Anyway, most seniors decide to have their senior portraits done with them also. Why pay another photographer for another session fee??? This studio uses backdrops, backdrops and more backdrops... not that backdrops are bad, but they just aren't very original... but I digress. My initial idea, let the seniors get their cap & gown images done with this large studio, but then show me the receipt and I will wave my session fee for their senior portraits... The more I thought of that, the more I thought that it wasn't the best idea. If they don't put any money down, will they really show up for their session??? So that has me thinking... Would it be wise for me to offer a free(hate that word) 8x10 if they book their portrait session with me. With the idea that they need to show me their receipt from the large studio to receive their free 8x10. I spoke with a fellow tpf member a few days ago and he swears by the free portrait offer.... Free and running a business just doesn't go hand in hand with me, but I need something to try and boost my high school senior sales.
My other thought was to try and contract with the school, so the kids had a choice where to get their senior portraits done. I can buy a few different sized cap and gowns and buy the backdrop that the school wants....
So, what are your thoughts on this?? Good idea? bad idea? terrible idea? |
