Really LONG print....help? - 04-13-2011, 10:34 PM

I shot 48 eighth grade students for my daughters class....it's part of their yearly fundraiser. We are printing this, framing it, and then it's going to be sold as part of a 'collage' with lots of framed photos from the past several years of these kids in junior high.

This is OBVIOUSLY a smaller sized version of the image....

Right now - it's 7" high, and 107" long....

Yup...107" long.

If I go to just 5" high - then it'll drop to 77" long...

This is an 'impact' piece for their auction so my biggest issue is - who the heck can print this dang thing???

Then I'm gonna get one of those HL 50% off coupons to get the darn thing framed... ;-) ;-)

Any suggestions? I could break it up into 2 pieces....if I've gotta....

don't break it up.

take it to anyone that does oversized prints. large format printers range from 24 to 44 inches wide usually, but the paper is on a roll, usually 75 or 100 feet long.

we have a 44" HP plotter at work, and with satin photo paper, it turns out amazing large prints.

as for frames... any custom shop will be able to help you. frame rails usually come in 8 foot pieces so they can make one 77 inches long.

Costco may be able, but you have to check in person, my costco has great people willing to do custom things like that.

You could print this yourself on 8 inch roll paper. The next size down I've seen in a roll is 4 inches. The smaller epson printers say they have a length limit of 44 inches, but when I needed to print long, I was able to print 60 inches lengths without any issues.

Perhaps you can find a lab that will print this as a specialty item and won't make it cost prohibitive to produce.

Using the calculator at perfectposter.com, 48 prints 6" tall and 92.5" long will have a base cost of $18.41 each
