500 px.com is a Flickr competitor from Canada that is growing by leaps and bounds in the last few months. It has all the standard social interaction like comments, favorites, etc.

Why is it growing? I assume it is because this place is the anti-Flickr because it actually allows you to SELL all your photos (at prices you set) directly from the site as well as display them much larger in a professional manner.

You get to keep 80% of the proceeds. Free to try and $50 a year if you want unlimited uploads. If you decide to join as a paid member, type in FRIENDS to get $10 off the first year. The link above will take you to my new portfolio that I’m just building at the site.

So far it looks very promising.

Here's the third party review of the site that got me interested:

Will do ..... and if anyone else signs up, let me know via this thread so I can "follow" your photo work there.

So far, I'm impressed with the quality of the photos on the site - and the interface is really nice as well.

I've been looking at several ppl's photos, and I've noticed you can right click and save the image. Do you know if there is a setting to stop that?

Joined, yes, but I have no photos there yet. Working on "keeping detail in jpeg originals at less than 30MB" for upload. Then I have to choose what to upload....from my meager collection.

HarrisG2, but as I said, I have some photo editing to do. All my editing so far was for "non-original" smaller sizes (usually 800pixels by whatever). I've always wanted a site that would "store the original" with all its detail. 500px looks promising.
