wondering if anyone has much luck to flyers that are sent to homes. One company was charging about 3.4k to disseminate 50k worth of postcard like flyers to homes of that meet certain income criteria, etc.
I thought to msyelf 3.4k is a big expense for advertising, and not sure if it'll do any good. I think that much cash would be better spent at a booth or something. Any thoughts?

depends on your field. if you're a small business looking to grow, this looks like a good idea, but if you're a single photographer just trying to get your name out there; i think the best approach is word of mouth, personal experience and just going out there to meet people. just my view.

it would be far cheaper to higher a graphic designer, buy a mailing list, use kinkos (or a better printing service), and mail them yourself.

I think Snarfy's suggestion is a pretty good one. Keep your first attempts at advertising as simple as possible. I would think twice about the flyers - ask yourself - "what would I do if I received a flyer in the mail?"

I have only been in California for about 6 months and I am amazed at how much "junk" mail I get on a weekly basis.

Look around and see how your competition advertises. I am not sure what type of work you want to do - look around for public events that you can display your work.
