Question Price Quote - 02-01-2008, 01:23 PM

Ok so I dont price these kinds of things very often. I was contacted by some one who would like me to shoot some photos for an instruction video for them to use the photo(s) on their DVD cover and they would like to own the rights... how the hell do I price this? It is an hour long from 7am - 8am then post production but to sell the photo for rights on a dvd cover as well. any thoughts???

I would charge a flat rate of $300 for the location shoot for the hour. It would help to know how Many DVD's will be produced and whether it is a one time use, or multiple use? Google "standard photo usage pricing", there is a chart available on line that gives current pricing for every concievable use. Location fee plus usage is standard. I'm not at home, otherwise I would send you the link.

Here it is, you just plug in your info.

Another option is to purchase this if you foresee the need http://www.fotoquote.com/

I'm saying charge the $300 for the one hour location fee. I'm not exactly sure what you should charge for the actual usage rights. I don't know how many DVD's will be produced, and subsequently have your photo on them. If they are going to distribute 100,000 DVD's, you would not be out of the ball park to ask for $8,000-$10,000

I would ask them flat out, "how many dvd's will you be producing?" That will lay the ground work for a solid price. You could also sell them the rights on a per annum type basis. (Hypothetical situation, Unlimited usage for one year, $4000, to be revisited in 2009 per contract)
